Is your babysitter a felon?
Children are GODS gift to the world. They are true examples of innocence who look to their parents for love. Guidance and protection. All they desire is acceptance, and a little praise for good deeds done. Children are the lovely flowers that make life worth living, so why are we wiling to turn them over to someone we really don't know?
It is because child care is so difficult to get? Is it because the provider is inexpensive. Or is it because we have no choice? Well, if we are willing to trust a child care provider with a human life that cannot be replaced, then shouldn't we at least know something about the individual who is caring for our little one's.
Sometimes we allow an outgoing fun persona to manipulate us, yet what is the provider like after our child is left in their care? We must consider the horror stories we have all read and think about the person who is taking care of our children.
Anyone who is considering child care must take precautionary measures prior to leaving their child in the hands of anyone. In my career, I have seen children who have been burned, sexually molested, beaten and more! This type of abuse caused me a great deal of anguish. It made me even more of appreciative of the care that I received as a child. I am one of the lucky ones , my mother cant wait for me to have children so that she can babysit, so I don't have to worry about child care issues.
Yes, I do realize that every one does not have that privilege and sometimes abuse does come from within the family structure. That is why we must do some investigation prior to placing our children in any facility.
To ensure that a child care provider is suitable, it is imperative that parents conduct a thorough interview and gather background information. It may be a tedious job, but it is better than visiting your child in the hospital because you failed to ensure that the child was in good hands.
Parents must also understand that the provider actually works for you. You must be totally satisfied and confident that you have made the best decision possible, when hiring a provider.
I have found that many providers are in control and sometimes intimidate parents. I have actually seen frantic parents, apologize repeatedly for being ten minutes late to pick up a child!
This intimidation occurs for the following reasons:
1. Parents need to place their children in child care to maintain a job
2. It is difficult to find a good babysitter
3. Parents don't have the time or energy to constantly seek new babysitters
You must understand that you fees help the pay mortgages, utilities and other crucial expenses for your babysitter, so it works both ways! Providers need you just as much as you need their services.
After you have completed the interview with a potential child care provider. Requests the following:
1. A list of references
2. Proof of current licensing
We often ignore the fact that some child care providers don't have a license to operate, which costs less than those who are licensed! Don't forget that going the cheap route can lead to DISASTER!!!!
Always check the cleanliness of the home and what kind of food is being prepared for your child. Check out the surroundings and other family members, if the care is being provided in the home. Remember children are very impressionable and will imitate bad habits.
Finally check the criminal and civil background of the child care provider. I don't think you want your child being cared for by a FELON!
